Blackjack Rules

Blackjack is the world's most popular casino card game, played here just for fun against the dealer. Both sides start with two cards (one of the dealer's stays hidden). You may Hit to draw cards one at a time, or Stand to hold. Whoever is closer to 21 without going over wins; going over 21 is a bust and loses immediately. Jacks, Queens and Kings count as 10; an Ace counts as 1 or 11 (whichever suits you best). A two-card 21 is a Blackjack and pays 3:2. The dealer must draw until reaching 17.

Basic Strategy for Beginners

Centuries of Vingt-et-un

Blackjack descends from vingt-et-un — "twenty-one" — played in French casinos in the 1700s, and it crossed the Atlantic with colonists to become the staple of American gambling halls. The name comes from an old bonus payout for an ace plus a black jack (the card, not the person). It earned scientific fame in 1956, when four statisticians published the first correct "basic strategy", and in 1962 when Edward Thorp's book Beat the Dealer showed the game could be counted; casinos have been adjusting against card counters ever since.

Our table keeps the parts worth keeping — the decisions — and removes the parts not worth having: no money, no stakes, just you, the dealer's upcard, and the eternal question. It is the friendliest possible place to learn why standing on 16 against a dealer's 6 feels wrong and is right: play enough free hands and the correct move stops being memorized and starts being obvious.

الأسئلة الشائعة

How do I play Blackjack?

Place a bet and deal. Hit or stand to get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Busting loses instantly; a two-card 21 (blackjack) pays 3:2.

How much is an Ace worth?

1 or 11 — whichever helps you most, applied automatically. A+6 is a soft 17; drawing a 10 turns it into a hard 17, never a bust.

What are the dealer's rules?

The dealer must hit below 17 and must stand on 17 or more.

Is this real gambling?

No. It's a casual game — chips are just a score, there's no real money and nothing to buy.

When should I hit or stand in Blackjack?

The core logic: the dealer is forced to draw until at least 17, so weak dealer upcards (2 through 6) bust often — stand on modest totals like 12-16 and let the dealer break. Against strong upcards (7 through ace) you must improve your hand, so keep hitting until you reach at least 17.

What does busting mean in Blackjack?

Busting is exceeding a total of 21, and it ends your hand immediately as a loss — even if the dealer would have busted later with the cards you did not take. That asymmetry is why careful players refuse to chase marginal improvements when the dealer shows a weak card.
