How to Play Tile Connect

Tile Connect (also known as Lianliankan) is a beloved matching classic: tap two identical tiles, and if they can be joined by a path of at most three straight segments — two turns — both tiles clear and score. Paths travel through empty cells and can swing around the outside edge of the board. Clear all 40 pairs within 180 seconds to win; if the remaining tiles form a deadlock the board reshuffles itself, so you're never stuck.

Pro Tips

The Mahjong-Tile Linking Family

Tile Connect follows the "two-turn link" rules popularized by Shisen-sho, a Japanese tile-removal game published in the early 1980s, and its East Asian cousin Lianliankan (连连看), which became a staple of internet cafés and office lunch breaks across China and Korea. The shared idea: identical tiles vanish only if a path of at most two turns can reach them without crossing another tile.

That path rule is the entire soul of the game. Two identical tiles side by side are trivial; two identical tiles buried on opposite sides of the board are a geometry problem you solve in your head. Because every removal changes the map — opening corridors, freeing buried tiles — each pair you clear rewrites which pairs are possible next, and a round becomes a chain of small decisions rather than a spotting exercise.

常見問題

How do I play Tile Connect?

Tap one tile, then an identical one. If they can be connected by a line that turns at most twice without crossing other tiles, both are cleared.

Why won't these two identical tiles clear?

The linking path may bend at most twice and can't pass through remaining tiles. Pairs buried in the middle usually need the surroundings cleared first.

What if no pairs can be linked?

No worries — after every clear the game checks for available moves, and automatically reshuffles the remaining tiles if none exist. Dead ends are impossible.

How long is a round?

Each round lasts 180 seconds. Clear everything early to win; when the clock hits zero the round ends and your best score is saved.

What does “within two turns” mean in Tile Connect?

The connecting path may bend at most twice, and every segment of it must pass through empty space — no tiles in the way. Fewer bends is fine; more than two turns is not, even if the tiles are identical. Your job is to read the empty corridors, not just the pictures.

Which pairs should I clear first in Tile Connect?

Prefer pairs whose removal frees up the most new tiles, especially ones buried in the middle or stacked in layers. Edge pairs are usually still there later; a pair that unblocks three trapped tiles is worth taking the moment you see it.
