How to Play 2048

2048 is a classic sliding number puzzle played on a 4Γ—4 grid. Every move slides all tiles in one direction; when two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into their sum (2+2=4, 4+4=8, and so on). After each move, a new 2 or 4 appears in a random empty cell. The game ends when the board is full and no merges remain. Reach the 2048 tile to win β€” then keep going for an even higher score!

2048 Tips for a Higher Score

  1. Pick a corner: keep your largest tile in one corner (e.g. bottom-left) and avoid moving it.
  2. Use only three directions: avoid the key that pushes your biggest tile out of its corner.
  3. Build a snake: arrange tiles in descending order from the corner so merges chain naturally.
  4. Keep cells empty: prioritize open space over short-term points so small tiles never trap you.
